Accident Coverage
All traditional undergraduate students enrolled at RWC for more than seven credit hours are covered by basic accident insurance. This policy covers students on or off campus during the school year (August 27 through May 15) and acts as secondary accident insurance for those students not enrolled in the college’s Health Insurance plan (see below).
.
Basic accident insurance provides coverage up to $3,000 for medical expenses related to injuries incurred due to an accident.* A deductible of $25 applies to all but interscholastic sports injuries. Claims exceeding $100 are covered up to $3,000 only to the extent they are not covered by other insurance. This benefit includes coverage for treatment of injury to natural teeth.
.
*Please see plan brochure for exclusions to this coverage.
Every fall semester, all traditional RWC undergraduate students taking more than seven credit hours must complete an insurance waiver.

Students who do not complete or annually update this form will automatically be enrolled in the College’s medical insurance program, and the charge will appear on the billing statements from Student Accounts. The insurance plan includes treatment for impacted wisdom teeth or dental abscesses up to a maximum of $75 per tooth.
The cost for the 2008-2009 academic year is $136 per semester.
No refunds will be made after the add-drop dates of each semester. Readmit and transfer students starting in the Spring must return their insurance form by January 15 and update their information each subsequent fall semester.
Families should note that this health insurance offers very basic and minimal coverage though it is well suited to the RWC Health Center set-up. The cost is also minimal. Students may opt to supplement their private insurance plan with this additional coverage.

Insurance Brochures
Student accident and health insurance plan brochures are included in a summer mailing from Student Services, which is generally mailed in late July. Extra copies of the brochure are available in the Health Center or can be downloaded at www.markelah.com.
Dependent Insurance
Family coverage is available for an additional fee for those students desiring coverage for spouses and/or children. Enrollment forms are available in the Health Center.
Filing a Claim
How to file a claim if covered by the College Insurance Plan:
- Have all bills for medical services mailed directly to you in your name. Do not have medical bills sent to Roberts Wesleyan College.
- Bring the original bills to the Health Center. A claim form must be completed and submitted for each illness or injury. It is not necessary to complete a separate form for services related to the same illness or injury. You may visit Markel's website or download a claim form at www.markelah.com and select the student/parent link.
Dental and Vision Coverage
Dental care and access to discounts on vision coverage are being made available beginning in Fall 2008 through Niagara National. To review the plans and enrollment information, please visit www.niagaranational.com, select Student Insurance, and select Dental & Vision
Additional Insurance Information for Parents and New Students
Parents, you can help your student immensely if you share the following information:
- Who the insurance provider is (ID card or name, contract number, and customer service number of insurance company).
- How to make a claim with the health insurance company.
- How to contact the health insurance company for approval to be seen out of area or by a new provider.
- Who the primary care doctor/provider is and how he or she can be reached.
- The rules for emergency versus non-emergency care.
- What is considered an emergency by your medical insurance plan—students sometimes think it is an emergency if they vomit or have a headache and seek emergency room care. Such care is often denied by the insurance company, making the student or parent liable for payment.
- The Health Center staff will not be able to give any information about a student’s care to a parent or anyone else unless the student has given signed consent for that information to be provided. Permission may be designated on the annually completed required insurance information form and white health history form.
All non-traditional and graduate students who are considered full-time students are eligible to enroll in a health insurance plan offered through E. J. Smith and Associates. Brochures are distributed to interested students during orientation or are available by calling the Health Center.
There are two levels of coverage—Plan 1 (basic) and Plan 2. Plan 2 can be expanded to include catastrophic medical and dental coverage. Prescription discounts may be added to either plan for an additional small fee per year.
An enrollment form is located in the back of each brochure. Students desiring coverage must enroll for a minimum of four months by completing the form and mailing the premium payment directly to the insurance company. The address, website, and phone number are listed below and on the back of the brochure if students have additional questions not covered in the plan details.
