Notetakers

Notetakers may be obtained by students eligible for them. The Learning Center will assist students in finding notetakers and/or planning for the duplication of notes. Faculty may be asked to identify good notetakers in their classes and to introduce students needing assistance to possible notetakers. Students are responsible for making arrangements with their notetakers for duplicating notes. Notetakers who are taking the class are expected to volunteer their services and will not be paid for their services. Eligible students may receive NCR paper from the office of the Learning Center or may photocopy their class notes within the Learning Center. Students who are paid for notetakers by federal, state or local agencies are expected to pay for duplicating costs.

Students who are eligible for writing assistance may request the services of a scribe for written assignments. However, whenever possible, out of class assignments should be completed by themselves through the use of computer technology or alternative assistive technology. In class writing assignments may be completed in the Learning Center by dictating to voice recognition software or through the use of a word processor. If thought processes, not writing mechanics, are the main focus of an assignment, students may arrange with their professors to tape record "writing" assignments in the Learning Center.
