Now that you're a Roberts student, we would like to remind you of several opportunities and resources available to you:
English Language Institute
You passed the TOEFL test, but perhaps you would like to become more proficient in English and more familiar with American culture. If that describes you, the College's [English Language Institute] can help.
The Institute offers a certificate program with six levels of English study (basic through advanced) taught in three different 15-week semesters - Fall, Winter and Spring/Summer. You can enter the level that suits you best, based on your TOEFL score. The program involves about 25 hours of class time per week, plus experiential learning opportunities and integrated programming with Roberts undergraduate students. It prepares students for matriculation into any of the College's undergraduate majors.
On-Campus Employment
You are not allowed to work off-campus without special permission from the U.S. Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services. But international students are eligible to work on campus for up to 20 hours a week when classes are in session and 40 hours a week when college is not in session. Students who plan to work will need to apply for a social security card. The Global Education Coordinator can help you get started.
Optional / Curricular Practical Training
There is an exception to the off-campus employment rules: work/study, internships or similar arrangements under the Optional Practical Training and Curricular Practical Training programs. These programs give students the opportunity to engage in off-campus work related to their major field of study. Once again, the Global Education Coordinator can help you get started.
Student Clubs and Activities
A well-rounded educational experience at Roberts includes more than classroom academics. During your stay here, we encourage you to get involved with your fellow Roberts classmates in any of the student groups and activities the College offers. More than 50 choices - from athletics to ministry to recreation to the arts - touch on a wide range of interests. They are a terrific way to learn more about the people around you, the country you're visiting, and yourself.
