Attending Roberts Wesleyan College is a
privilege which may be withdrawn if a student demonstrates
substantial disharmony with the traditions and regulations of the
college. The college reserves the right to give any student an
academic warning or to place a student on academic probation if it
is deemed an appropriate action by the Academic Guidance and
Support Committee. If a student has been placed on warning or
probation, a statement to this effect will appear on the
transcript.
Federal and State financial aid is also
dependent on maintaining at least a 2.00 cumulative grade point
average, GPA.
Warning
Any student whose grade point average is
less than 2.00 at the end of a grading period is warned that
improvement must take place. A student may also be warned at other
times of any situation prejudicial to his or her progress or
continued registration. A student placed on a warning may be placed
under certain restrictions or recommendations. The student's
academic performance will be reviewed by the Academic Guidance and
Support Committee, AGSC, at the end of the next semester.
The restrictions for each warning are as
follows:
Warning -
- A limited load of 15 credit hours per semester. Registering for
more than 15 hours must first be approved by the Registrar.
- Although not required, the Learning Center can be a useful tool
for improvement.
- A student is in jeopardy of being placed on academic probation
if no improvement in GPA (semester & cumulative) is
achieved.
Probation
A student may be placed on academic
probation at any time when, in the opinion of the Academic Guidance
and Support Committee, the student has seriously endangered the
chances of remaining in the college. A student is automatically
placed on academic probation when he/she has not achieved a minimum
term GPA of 1.0 (not including freshman), and/or cumulative minimum
GPA of 1.5 for freshman, 1.75 for sophomores, 2.0 for Juniors and
Seniors. The student's academic performance will be reviewed by the
Academic Guidance and Support Committee, AGSC, at the end of the
next semester. Typically students are given two semesters to
improve their academic standing.
The restrictions for probation are as
follows:
Probation-
- No unexcused class absences. Attendance will be monitored.
- A limited load to 12 credit hours per semester. Thirteen or
fourteenhours are approved when the only alternative is to drop to
part-time (less than 12 hours).
- Visiting the Learning Center for help is required. The student
should report there within the first 5 days of the semester. The
extent to which Learning Center is used will be reported to the
committee.
- A student is in jeopardy of being suspended from attending the
college if no improvement in GPA (semester & cumulative) is
achieved.
Suspension
A student may be placed on academic
suspension if after review the Academic Guidance and Support
Committee finds that there has been no progress to improve the
student's GPA (semester & cumulative). The suspension requires
that the student take one semester away from attending RWC. If
after the semester away the student would like to return to the
college, he/she must apply for re-admission through the Office of
Admissions.
Dismissal
Dismissal from the college for academic
reason occurs when a student has failed to respond to previous
academic warnings. A student whose suspension from the college is
effective through the end of a semester receives grade(s) of W.
