RWC/NES Emergency Response Team
H1N1 Virus (Swine Flu) Update

Roberts recommends that all students,
faculty and staff be aware of the following information and that
each individual takes precautionary measures to stay healthy this
school year.
The flu season is starting and will last
through the fall and winter. More than one kind of flu virus will
be spreading this season, including seasonal flu and the 2009 H1N1
flu. If you get the flu, you can get sick and can spread the flu to
others at school, home, work, and in the community. Symptoms of flu
include fever or chills and cough or sore throat. In addition,
symptoms of flu can include runny nose, body aches, headache,
tiredness, diarrhea, or vomiting.
Students residing on-campus
are asked to contact the Health Center and/or their Resident
Director if they have these symptoms.
Students residing
off-campus are asked to contact the College Health Center
if they are on campus or their healthcare provider if at home. All
students are encouraged to limit their contact with others and are
thereby encouraged to stay/go home during the recovery period.
All students with flu-like symptoms are
required to remain in their residence hall or preferably at home
until at least 24 hours after symptoms are gone (i.e. no fever) or
signs of a fever (have chills, feel very warm, have a flushed
appearance, or are sweating). Additional directions and protocols
are provided through the Health Center. This should be determined
without the use of fever-reducing medicines (any medicine that
contains ibuprofen or acetaminophen).
Also to prevent the spread of the flu
remember to cover your coughs and sneezes with your elbow or tissue
and wash your hands often with soap and water. Use an alcohol-based
hand cleaner if soap and water are not available. Hand cleaner has
been distributed around campus and can be found in the most
frequented areas. If a severe flu outbreak hits our community,
Roberts will take additional steps and necessary precautions to
avoid spreading the flu virus.
