Kurzweil 3000
The Kurzweil 3000 scan and read system is a
revolutionary piece of technology available for student use through
the office of the Learning Center. Approved students may use the
Kurzweil to scan academic text documents or textbooks, and have
them read out loud. Students can select a variety of options
including print size, reading rate, color for highlighter, and male
or female voice. Prior to independent use, students must complete a
30 minute training session. Once trained, students can access this
equipment from several computer labs on campus.
Among its features is the ability to:
- improve comprehension rate and reading rate
- improve attention and focus
- significantly magnify text size and clarity
- enhance word usage through its dictionary, thesaurus,
pronunciation, and syllabication guide
Dragon Naturally Speaking

Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 allows the
approved user to create documents, reports, emails, and search the
web, just by speaking. It is up to 3 times faster than typing and
99% accurate. Dragon is microsoft compatible and is available in
the Learning Center.
Ginger Software
Ginger is a computer program that
corrects written work. It is used for students with Learning
Disabilities, dyslexia and for ESL students who are learning the
English language. Ginger is both a compensatory tool and a
learning platform. It corrects errors in sentences by
suggesting alternate words or phrases. It provides visual and
auditory feedback, so the writer can learn correct spelling and
word usage.
JAWS
JAWS is screen reading software for
students with low vision or students who are blind. JAWS
reads everything on the computer screen. JAWS has a refreshable
Braille display and provides Braille output in addition to, or
instead of, speech.
